The band originally set up in 1982 and took the UK top 20s eventually with songs such as heaven knows i'm miserable now which reached the top 10 in the 80s! Charming Man and There is a light that never goes out are my personal favourites. This music offered a different blend of rock music with electronic sounds, drums and vocals. Compared to the predominant and popular synth pop style which included other favourites such as Blue Monday and Don't you want me. The smiths left a legacy that birthed popular 90s legends Oasis' very own Noel Gallagher, indie brit pop arctic monkeys and even Jeff Buckley.

The Smiths captured my own trifecta of complimentary emotions with heaven knows i'm miserable now. Mirth, sorrow and happiness. Those uplifting high notes dragged out in single file scintillate the senses and stimulate the imagination so well they can sift through to the unconscious mind. Depression or not, you're sure to get those familiar feelings of mirth bubbling up like champaign bubbles popping through your gut. My imagination is quite vivid so i'm usually picturing the flight trajectory of a wingless bird by now by which the lovely melody has picked up and contrasted perfectly with my moody thoughts.

Cue lyrics "I was happy in a haze", perfect past tense noun to validate my feelings. "Heaven knows i'm miserable now!" exquisitely exaggerated to melodramatic proportions. Repeat, jobless and drunk, got a job still miserable the very familiar situation that's perfect for senseless wallowing.
